Nelson Mandela's Accomplishments

Nelson became the first president of South Africa. He also was the president of the African National Congress (ANC). He was a prominent anti-aparthied activist. he is the most widely known figure in struggle against aparthied. Before he became the president of South Africa he was in jail for sabotage after he went underground and began the ANC's armed struggle. Nelson was released in 1990 after spending 27 years in prison on Robben Island. He recieved over a hundred awards over four decades, the most notable was the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993. To the people in South Africa he is known as Madiba an honorary title by elders of Mandela's Clan. Those who dont know him as Madiba call him Mkhulu.
